Faculty Positions

The Section of Hospital Medicine at Vanderbilt University seeks talented BC/BE Internal Medicine physicians to join the full-time faculty at the level of Assistant, Associate, or full Professor, on a clinical, academic, or research track.  Advanced care providers, including NP and PA candidates, are also eligible for faculty positions.

Clinical Practitioners (CP track), including daytime, nocturnist, or mixed roles, are available for well-trained physicians who wish to focus on direct patient care and medical consultation. Faculty members in the CP track currently participate in a number of educational, quality, and clinical leadership activities.

An academic Clinician-Educator (CE) track position is 80% clinical, with additional responsibilities in teaching, scholarship, quality improvement, and administration. Faculty in this track typically have additional fellowship experience and/or a dedicated record of excellence in education or leadership. A Physician-Scientist (PS) track provides 80% time for research in collaboration with established investigators in health services research, quality improvement, patient safety, behavioral sciences, and biomedical informatics.  Prior research fellowship training is required.

We are looking for immediate needs for Hospital Medicine Extensivists.  Physicians in this program, in conjunction with an interdisciplinary team, provide longitudinal inpatient, outpatient, and care across transitions, to patients at risk of increased healthcare utilization.

We offer flexible scheduling, access to top specialists, and opportunities to engage in teaching, quality improvement, and scholarship. Vanderbilt University Medical Center is a leader in providing high-quality, cost-effective care. With robust programs in quality improvement and clinical research, a highly-developed electronic health record, Magnet Recognition for nursing care, competitive salaries and benefits, and a highly supportive environment for faculty, Vanderbilt is a great place to work.

Fellowship Positions

We also seek highly qualified applicants for a Hospital Medicine Fellowship which provides structured education in quality improvement methodologies and mentored training in health services research through the Veterans Affairs Quality Scholars Program, as well as a Masters in Public Health. Fellows will be prepared for a successful academic career as either a physician-scientist or a clinician-educator.  Interested candidates should apply through the VA Quality Scholars program, specifying an interest in Hospital Medicine.
