Brief Description: Karen grew up in Northern Virginia. She was active in sports, including figure skating and short/mid-distance track, as well as volunteer work. She headed south to Williamsburg, VA for college at William and Mary, where she graduated with degrees in Neuroscience and Biochemistry. She spent the next year volunteering at a free medical clinic in the DC area, training as an EMT, and coaching adapted ice skating and Special Olympics skating classes. She stayed in Virginia to attend the University of Virginia for medical school. She enjoys figure skating, skiing, running, hiking, and traveling, and notable achievements include a scuba diving certification and almost mastering speaking Spanish without a French accent. She is very excited to start residency at Vanderbilt and move to Nashville.
