Julie grew up in New Jersey, where she had the dubious distinction of attending the same high school as one of the stars of the 'Jersey Shore.' She traveled a few miles west from home for college at Princeton University, where she studied molecular biology and did research on how bacteria communicate via quorum sensing. She then traveled many more miles to UCSF for an MD/PhD, where she studied signaling transduction in leukocyte migration. While in the Bay Area, Julie kept hearing about the ‘big data revolution’ and ‘personalized medicine.' She is excited to see how these play out with Vanderbilt’s BioVU database. Outside of the lab, Julie enjoys long distance running and performing experiments at home by infusing spirits to create DIY liquors.
